Job Overview

This role involves coordinating SHL’s trademark and brand protection activities. Tasks involve liaising with internal

stakeholders and external counsel, docketing and recording deadlines, filing documents with appropriate authorities,

making payments such as for renewal fees and other official fees, handling incoming invoices, organizing meetings

and taking minutes, maintaining records and electronic files, preparing and obtaining signature of straightforward

legal documents, updating and managing our case management system and preparing reports. The Trademark/Legal

Paralegal is expected to take full responsibility for these tasks, reporting directly to the Head IP Strategy and Litigation.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate SHL’s trademark and brand protection activities
  • File and prosecute trademark applications in Europe, United States and throughout the world, with the support of outside counsel
  • Manage trademark disputes, including securing coexistence agreements and such like, with the support of outside counsel
  • Advise stakeholders on trademark and brand protection issues
  • Monitor competitor trademark activity, e.g. trademark watches
  • Coordinate trademark clearance activities
  • Prepare and obtain signature on POAs, NDAs, IP assignments etc.
  • Draft outgoing correspondence and process incoming correspondence
  • Take responsibility for docketing and managing deadlines
  • Maintain case management system and improve work workflows to drive efficiency
  • Handle invoice approval process according to the internal policy
  • Prepare reports monitoring KPIs and other IP statistics
  • Support the Head of IP Strategy and Litigation, CLO and other managers with team organization
  • Perform other administrative tasks, as assigned by the Head of IP Strategy and Litigation

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Tertiary education (e.g. degree or diploma), or equivalent, ideally in a legal related field
  • 3+ years’ work experience in IP administration relating to trademarks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding IT capabilities, in particular MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications in IP/trademark work
  • Right to act as professional representative before the EUIPO
  • German language skills are a plus
