Main Responsibilities (Different roles depending on background)
*When submitting your application, please include a cover letter and specify which two job responsibilities you are most interested in.
- Mechanical Designer – Automation Systems
Responsible for the design and development of scalable, high-performance mechanical automation systems for SHL auto-injector assembly platform. This role focuses on end-to-end mechanical design to integrate the assembly of an auto injector in an automated assembly machine platform and utilizing 6-axis robots, servo-driven presses, and XTS shuttle systems. The position plays a key role in fixture, gripper, and process-flow design to achieve high throughput, reliability, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
-
- Design robust mechanical systems and process flow capable of achieving a minimum cycle time of ≥ 5 parts per minute (PPM) per device
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings in compliance with engineering standards
- Design and optimize fixtures, grippers, and assembly stations for automated assembly and inspection
- Support machine assembly, debugging, and commissioning activities
- Lead and participate in design reviews, including dimensioning, tolerance analysis, and risk assessment
- Drive standardization of mechanical designs and assembly processes across platforms
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and propose innovative, reliable engineering solutions
- Robot Integration, Vision & Flexible Feeding
Responsible for integrating vision-guided robotic and flexible feeding solutions to support high-mix automated part handling. The role focuses on reliable part detection, accurate robot calibration, stable pick-and-place performance, and intuitive software interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
-
- Implement flexible feeding systems integrated with vision systems and industrial robots (e.g., FANUC)
- Develop solutions for small to medium components with random orientations, varied geometries, and different surface finishes
- Perform Eye-to-Hand and Eye-in-Hand calibration for accurate part localization
- Design and support backend and frontend software applications with a user-friendly UI, enabling mechanical engineers to easily add, configure, and validate new parts without software expertise
- Establish and validate communication interfaces (TCP/IP, HTTP, Modbus) between vision systems, robots, feeders, and PC-based platforms
- Support system debugging, tuning, and integration testing
- Document calibration methods, software workflows, system architecture, and validation results
- PLC & Automation Programmer
Responsible for operating, improving, and upgrading medium sized manufacturing assembly units, while integrating new auto injector device into them.
The role focuses on implementing upgrades to these manufacturing units and emphasizes optimizing assembly processes for product development and prototyping while ensuring performance excellence.
You will also develop automation (PLC) code to support the introduction of new products and improve assembly methods and strategies. A key focus is programming custom processes for high-mix part handling and assembly testing.
Key Responsibilities
-
- Develop automation code to improve assembly strategies for current and new products.
- Support manufacturing teams with engineering studies and performance testing.
- Work side by side with robot and vision system engineers, to integrate their processes into the assembly unit cells.
- Collaborate with process, automation, and validation engineers to evaluate assembly methods.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in assembly processes and automation.
- Automation industrialization support
Depending on the status and scope of ongoing projects, you will support the Senior Automation Process Engineer in one or more of the following areas:
Key Responsibilities
-
- Process & Equipment Development: Support the design, development, and optimization of automated assembly processes and machinery to enhance operational efficiency.
- Technical Documentation: Contribute to the creation of process documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and validation protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ).
- Reporting & Communication: Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations summarizing findings, test results, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Root Cause Investigations: Conduct investigations into machine, product, and process deviations, identifying root causes and proposing corrective actions.
In addition to supporting ongoing projects, you will also be given the opportunity to independently lead and drive your own improvement initiatives, including but not limited to:
- Drive Process Improvement Initiatives: Lead the development of new automation concepts and perform business case analyses to support investment in process enhancements
- Implementation of Improvements: Assist in implementing process enhancements aimed at increasing throughput, reducing cycle time, and improving product quality.
- Value Stream Mapping & Line Optimization: conduct value stream mapping, plan line balancing strategies, and identifying opportunities for process improvements and equipment upgrades.
- Process Analysis: Perform time studies, process capability analysis, and data evaluations
